Toar first appeared in the Popeye strip in March of 1935. He is thousands of years old, having drunk once from the "pool of never die", granting him with immortality. He can still be killed by injury, but he will never age. Once, he was a dangerous villain, but now he is loyal to Popeye, willing to sacrifice his life, if need be, for the sailor.
