Make your own Uboa t-shirt or sweatshirt! Freak out your friends and family! It's easy!
You will need:
A black t-shirt/sweatshirt
A piece of white t-shirt/sweatshirt fabric or the back of an old white t-shirt/sweatshirt you don't want anymore
Something to mark the white fabric with
Good sharp scissors
A sewing machine threaded with black thread
Anti-fray fluid such as Fray Check by Dritz (optional)
Uboa pattern
Print out the 4-part Uboa pattern, cut the pieces out, and tape them together (it will be reversed, it's supposed to be). If you're making a shirt smaller than say, a medium, you may want to reduce these images some (an XL shirt is shown in the photos below). Place the pattern on your shirt to make sure you're happy with this size:
You need to transfer the design to the pice of white fabric. I do stuff like this by taping it up on the glass patio door (while the sun's out) and using it like a light table:
Trace the design with a marker or chalk or whatever (it won't show later so it doesn't matter what you use). Turn the black shirt inside out and pin the white fabric on the front where you want the face to be:
Now sew along the lines. It doesn't have to be perfect, no one will know if you don't follow the lines exactly:
Trim around the white area, leaving about a half inch or so. Turn the shirt right side out and CAREFULLY cut away the black fabric to expose the face. Do not get too close to the stitches and obviously, try not to make holes in the white fabric. When you are done you can use the Fray Check on the cut edges if you like. You will also want to use a lint roller or a wad of tape to remove all the bits of black and white fabric that will now be all over your new shirt. ENJOY!
